RC Vision, the not-for-profit social venture using radio control car racing to widen access to science and engineering, has partnered with global business advisory firm FTI Consulting to help scale its work. The collaboration is supported through FTI’s Pro Bono Program, which pairs the firm’s specialist expertise with community-led organisations to help tackle pressing social issues and expand their reach. Working as strategic partners, the two teams will focus on transitioning RC Vision from a proven, founder-led venture into a sustainable, scalable platform for STEM engagement.
Founded in 2022, RC Vision uses the accessibility and excitement of electric RC racing to reach children and young people who do not yet see science and engineering as places where they belong.
RC Vision is already working with schools, local authorities and community partners across the UK, including an industry leading partnership with the BMW Group through BMW (UK) Manufacturing Ltd and Mini Plant Oxford.
In the last 12 months, RC Vision has worked with 3,300 young people across 88 sessions and events. That’s 44 school workshops, 30 holiday and youth club sessions, and 14 race days, adding up to more than 9,000 hours of hands-on time building, tuning and racing RC cars. Most of that happened in schools, where a single workshop is enough to get pupils who’d written themselves off saying “I’m actually good at this“. Impact evaluations back that up: pupils’ interest in STEM rose sharply after just one session.
Outside school, holiday clubs and race days give young people somewhere to keep going, and that’s where the deeper stuff happens: confidence, belonging, and starting to see science and engineering as something for people like them. Next, we want to turn more of those one-off sparks into long-term involvement.
The next stage of RC Vision’s evolution will be supported by FTI Consulting to ensure that the sustainable impact it delivers can be implemented at scale.
FTI Consulting’s pro-bono work will consider the future of STEM education in the context of some of the most pressing issues affecting young people, particularly youth unemployment, investment in youth clubs, and mental health, alongside the technology and green energy transformations radically reshaping industry and the world of work.
FTI’s UK & Ireland Business Transformation and Strategic Communications teams will use this wider perspective to examine RC Vision’s operating and revenue model, funding, resourcing, investment readiness and growth opportunities. The goal is to create a practical transformation roadmap that will support thousands more young people across the UK.
Andy Hyde, founder of RC Vision, said: “We’re very pleased to receive support from a prestigious organisation such as FTI Consulting. Our work has demonstrated that radio control racing can be a powerful and accessible way to engage young people with engineering and STEM. FTI Consulting brings expertise and perspective that will be incredibly valuable as we look to grow RC Vision into a platform that can provide meaningful opportunities and support to many more of the increasing numbers of youngsters that desperately need it.”
Dev Jain, Director at FTI Consulting, added: “I’m thrilled to be supporting RC Vision on this journey. Having developed a passion for motorsport from a young age, racing karts competitively throughout my teens, I know from personal experience how powerful hands-on racing is for building problem-solving, resilience, and technical discipline. Many of the skills and engineering principles I picked up on the track are things I still rely on today. RC Vision makes STEM truly accessible, and our team is proud to help them scale their model to inspire thousands more young people across the UK.”
Over the coming months, RC Vision and FTI Consulting will work through the roadmap together, and we’ll share what we learn along the way. If you’re a school, local authority, employer or funder who’d like to be part of the next chapter, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch at andy@rcvision.co.uk or find out more at rcvision.co.uk.
